Justin and I are big fans of comedic duos and find great inspiration in watching them. As we’ve mentioned on the show before, we used to be in an improv group together and in fact attempted to create our own 2 man show once. Hell we even wrote a sizable amount before letting it fizzle into nothing. Actually “nothing” might be a bit of an over statement considering this podcast shares the same name. Anyway why do I mention this?
One very simple reason. Today we talk about the most influential show of them all. The one that we most aspired to be like. I’d tell you what it was but I’m afraid you wouldn’t listen to the episode if we gave it up for the pre-show. Meaning now you have no choice but to listen. My logic is absolute and cannot be denied! Oh but I should probably mention that we talk about a lot of great shows on this one so it may not be immediately apparent which one is a part of our origin story.
Another thing about this episode worth mentioning is that we try a few new things. Awful things involving our old improv skills. It’s a good time. Obviously we talk about Star Trek and Mass Effect at some point as well. I mean we haven’t completely lost our minds. Keep listening and we’ll keep talking! That’s a promise.

Now this, this is an episode. Probably one of our best so far. I know I say that about every new episode, but this time I mean it. (Here’s a secret for you: I mean it every time.) Our show, like many shows, has taken a while to find its groove. You know, like Star Trek the Next Generation – the first season was pretty rough, and then it got better. We’re just like that. (Remember how in the first couple of episodes they’d have male crew members wandering around the ship in those short skirt uniforms? Our first couple of episodes were like that: well-meaning, but ultimately silly.) But now, whoo boy, this episode is like an episode featuring Q, or the Borg – exciting. (Why didn’t I break out the Star Trek analogies an episode or two ago when Josh did the Next Gen photoshop?)
Anyway, I hope you like it, and I hope you come back in two weeks for another dose.
