147 – There’s a Pill for That

Love is in the air and everyone is feeling a bit insane as a result. It’s just that time of year. Also for those not afflicted with the build up of oxytocin bonded closeness it can be a bit tougher right now than usual, maybe depressing even. That’s where science comes in.

Well science fiction technically. In this episode we discuss the new Netflix original show about identity and human connection called Maniac. It’s a trippy crazy story that is not afraid to explore some pretty serious stuff in a creative and often fun way. Check out this spoiler free coverage and see if it sounds right for you. Ok here’s just one spoiler … it’s great!

Thanks for listening!

-Josh

Hello folks!
Against all odds, we’ve done it again: Recorded, edited, and produced another humdinger of an episode for your listening pleasure!
I don’t have anything else to say, and I’ve gotta get the episode to Josh so we can technically be on time, so that’s it for me! See you next time!

146 – Deja Vu

We’ve been here before. An episode is due. A deadline looms. We know we need to deliver, but life is getting in the way. Is it possible we’ll find a solution in time? Is there some way to cheat the system? Would we even do that?
Impossible to say. Anyway, unrelated to all that we decided to release this one day later so it lines up with the holiday movie it’s based on. The movie we always planned to talk about on this episode from the very beginning. Let’s discuss Groundhog Day!

We’re not late.

-Josh

What can I tell you, we saw an opportunity to do an episode two days late and call it “On Time” and we took it. Why? Because we’re innovators, that’s why.
Anyway, this ep’s all about *everyone’s* favorite holiday flick, Groundhog Day.
It’s a real good episode, I think, so listen to it a couple dozen times.
Love you!

145 – Maximum Effort

One of my resolutions for 2019 is to make the best podcast possible. To try harder and make a better product this year than last year. So that said . . .

What a fantastic episode this is! We’ve got two great guests that we get to talk to about one of the best super hero films we saw in 2018 – Deadpool 2. This is how you start a year off strong. Honestly the most surprising thing about the movie was just how good it was for a sequel to something that pretty much came to an end story wise. They really put the work into making this followup a range of things more than just juvenile jokes breaking up over-the-top action scenes and it shows. Well done indeed.

Thanks to Lindsey my wife for coming on and showing us how it’s done. She does lots behind the scenes that makes this all possible, but having her on is still my favorite way she participates. Also a special thanks to Amanda for joining us on what is hopefully the first of many visits, but also for always being supportive of the show by listening on the regular and even spreading the word. I suspect that our best stuff is still yet to come. Here’s to a great 2019!

P.S. I promise to curb my excitement and let people talk more next time. Probably.

-Josh

Hello folks, this episode should have been on time, it was recorded early, edited early, uploaded early, and yet, somehow, it’s late. Well, “late” meaning later than midnight on the 14th, but still before midnight on the 15th, so we still win.
Send me my prize.
Hope you are well, and that thing you were worried about turned out alright.

144 – Best of 2018

We survived!

Every year comes to an end and with it comes this episode. Sure 2018 was a particularly challenging one filled with awful things and realizations about those we call family and friends . . . but it had its good parts as well. We’re here to forget about the not so great things for a moment, and to focus on what we loved getting lost in during this constantly growing divide. These are our picks for what we enjoyed most in entertainment for 2018. Have a listen and you might just agree.

Now raise your glass to a fantastic 2019!

-Josh

Welcome to 2019 Party People!
It’s my last full year of my 30s, how ’bout that!
Also, we have this podcast that we put out, called A Trouble with Words. It’s ok.
It’s time for our annual look back at the year that was, primarily through the lens of the media we consumed this year, which is definitely the only thing that matters, when you get right down to it.
I hope you enjoy the episode, cause if you don’t, why are we even doing this?

143 – Serious Business

More and more it seems like video games need charts to figure out how complex they are. Not on how to play them mind you, but to even understand what we’re buying. A sea of definitive versions at multiple locations with each having its own exclusive content and pre-order bonus. Season Passes that don’t include everything in a season and now downloadable content for the downloadable content we already purchased and not the game itself. DLC that isn’t even released in its entirety at purchase, but rather drip fed over months. Are we even certain we bought it? How do we access it?

Yeah you guessed it. We’re sharing some thoughts on Destiny 2 Forsaken in this one, and complaining about all the money being made off our confusion. That and our deepest fears and experiences with going to therapy. Should be a good time filled with spoilers. Thanks for listening!

-Josh

Hello, this is a post that I did not have time to write, therefore it is very brief, but you will not read it anyway, so no one will notice. I love you.
